What is the Case Number field? [1]

This field is for the case number of the lawsuit. This number usually can be found on court documents regarding the case. The case number typically will be either a string of numbers or a combination of letters and numbers, often preceded by the indicator “Case No.” or “No.” For example, “No. 06-1544” and “No. 3:07CV01129.”

If the lawsuit has appeared in multiple courts because of removal, appeal, or other transfer, it will have a different case number for each court. Please include each of these, separating the case numbers with a semicolon (“;”). For example: “No. 06-1544; No. 3:07CV01129.”
