Description

On March 10, 2010, a lawyer representing the conservative non-profit organization Citizens United [2] sent a demand letter [3] to Mike McCabe, director of the Madison-based Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.  The letter claimed that Wisconsin Democracy Campaign's "Citizens United Against Citizens United" facebook page [4] and online petition [5], which were created to galvanize opposition to the Supreme Court's controversial decision in Citizens United v. FEC [6] (large pdf), infringed Citizens United's trademark in its name.  The letter demanded that Wisconsin Democracy Campaign cease all use of the trademark and destroy any writings and/or articles bearing the trademark.
