Carleton Hotel LLC v. Gladstone [1]

On June 15, 2011, Carleton Hotel LLC (owner of The Carleton at Oak Park hotel) filed suit against two customers for a negative review posted on travel site TripAdvisor.com. The defendants allegedly posted the review [2] after staying at The Carleton and possibly finding bedbugs.

The complaint [3] alleges that the hotel paid for a proper bedbug inspection after the defendants mentioned the possibility of infestation, and that defendants knew that the inspection revealed no evidence of bedbugs. Carleton is seeking damages stemming from defamation (both per se and per quod), false light invasion of privacy, and tortious interference with prospective economic advantage.
