Without My Consent is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering victims of online harassment, as well as facilitating debate and discussion around the issues of online invasion of privacy, accountability, theI nternet and free speech. The project was co-founded by Colette Vogele and Erica Johnstone as a fellow project at Stanford's Center for Internet & Society. We are excited by the work that Colette and Erica are doing at Without My Consent, as they provide critical resources to victims of online invasion of privacy while remaining focused on the risk that excessive regulation poses to the legitimate exchange of information.
To celebrate its first year of operation, Without My Consent will be holding a panel discussion and fundraiser this Wednesday, July 18th at 6 p.m., at 111 Minna St. in San Francisco. The event will be moderated by SF Chronicle tech journalist James Temple, and include Christopher Sundermeier of Reputation.com, Dr. Keely Kolmes (also on WMC's Advisory Board),
Julie Havens, manager of User Safety at Twitter, Carla Franklin, a survivor of harassment, and Melanie Griswold from the Santa Clara County DA's office. More information, including registration details, can be found here.
We hope that you are able to attend this event (we'd go, but we're on the wrong coast) and consider an additional donation (it's tax deductible)!
